Bel A novel approach is described for preparing Ga-promoted Pt particles for the dehydrogenation of light alkanes to alkenes. The modifying element, Ga, was introduced by transference from the support, a calcined Mg(Ga)(Al)O hydrotalcite-like material. Pt nanoparticles were dispersed onto the calcined Mg(Ga)(Al)O starting from an organometallic precursor, followed by reduction. The formation of PtGa alloy particles is dependent on reduction temperature. Reduction at 723 K produces mainly metallic Pt particles. The average diameter of the Pt nanoparticles increased from 1.4 nm to 2.2 nm with increasing Ga content, and decreasing Al content of the support, demonstrating the importance of support Al atoms in stabilizing the dispersion of Pt. After reduction at 773–873 K, PtGa alloys were observed. It is proposed that at high reduction temperatures, H atoms formed on the surface of the metal particles spill over onto the support where they reduce Ga cation to atomic Ga, which then interacts with the supported Pt to form PtGa alloys. The activity, selectivity and stability of Pt/Mg(Ga)(Al)O catalysts for ethane and propane dehydrogenation are described in the second part of this study (G. Siddiqi, P. Sun, V. Galvita, A.T. متن کاملDehydrogenation of Isobutane Over Nanoparticles of Pt/Sn Alloy on Pt/Sn/Na-Y Catalyst: The Effect of Tin Precursor on the Catalyst Behavior
In this research Na-Y was synthesized by hydrothermal method and used as support for preparation of Sn/Pt/Na-Y catalysts using two different tin precursors, Bu3Sn(Cl) and SnCl2.2H2O, by sequential impregnation, in which the Pt was deposited first and in the next step Sn was deposited. The catalysts were characterized by H2 chemisorption, transmis...

Ru/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by conventional incipient wetness impregnation as well as colloid deposition of RuCl3 precursor via in situ reduction with ethylene glycol (polyol) method on alumina support. The samples were characterized by TEM, XRD and TPR techniques. The catalytic performance tests were carried out in a fixed-bed micro-reactor under diffe...
متن کاملPlatinum-Promoted Ga/Al2O3 as Highly Active, Selective, and Stable Catalyst for the Dehydrogenation of Propane**
A novel catalyst material for the selective dehydrogenation of propane is presented. The catalyst consists of 1000 ppm Pt, 3 wt% Ga, and 0.25 wt% K supported on alumina. We observed a synergy between Ga and Pt, resulting in a highly active and stable catalyst. Additionally, we propose a bifunctional active phase, in which coordinately unsaturated Ga(3+) species are the active species and where ...
متن کاملRole of Sn in the Regeneration of Pt/γ-Al2O3 Light Alkane Dehydrogenation Catalysts
Alumina-supported Pt is one of the major industrial catalysts for light alkane dehydrogenation. This catalyst loses activity during reaction, with coke formation often considered as the reason for deactivation. As we show in this study, the amount and nature of carbon deposits do not directly correlate with the loss of activity. Rather, it is the transformation of subnanometer Pt species into l...
